Racing to the Finish Line
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
Life is often compared to a journey, but for Ramsey Jones, it was a powerful ride—steady, determined, and full of purpose—until he crossed the finish line into eternal rest.
Ramsey Jones was born on May 15, 1946, in Appling, Georgia, to the late Mr. Robert Jones and Mrs. Janie Moore Jones. He was the fourth of seven children, raised in a family grounded in love and faith. On May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his residence, Ramsey completed his earthly race after a long and courageous battle with respiratory illness.
At an early age, Ramsey answered the call of the Lord and joined Mount Olive Baptist Church. He believed in giving God his time and remained active in the life of the church. His faith was the fuel that kept him moving forward, even through life’s most difficult roads.
Ramsey was educated in the schools of Appling, Georgia, and went on to build a strong and faithful work ethic. For over 30 years, he worked with Gaskin Construction Company as an asphalt truck driver, helping pave many roads—both literally and figuratively—before retiring in 2020.
On October 2, 1966, Ramsey married the love of his life, Lucille Griffin. Together, they built a life filled with love, travel, and family, journeying between Georgia and California. From their union came four children: Antonio, Reginald, Jerald, and Yolanda. His beloved wife preceded him in death on September 29, 2011.
Ramsey had a deep love for cars—especially Mustangs—and a true need for speed. Whether on the road or watching from afar, he admired the power, design, and freedom they represented. In his later years, he embraced technology, spending countless hours enjoying car videos on YouTube and TikTok, always keeping his passion alive.
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille G. Jones; his son, Antonio E. Jones; his parents, Robert and Janie Jones; and his siblings, Lillie Tanksley and Fred Jones.
Though he has crossed the finish line, the legacy he leaves continues to drive forward.
Ramsey leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted daughter, Yolanda Jones of Augusta, GA; two faithful sons, Reginald Jones and Jerald (Regina) Jones, both of Augusta, GA; daughter-in-law, Sebrina Jones of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Gertrude Lockhart of Augusta, GA and Daisey Thurmond of Clarks Hill, SC; two brothers, Moses (Shelia) Jones of Augusta, GA and Luther (Rose) Jones of Winfield, GA; one brother-in-law, Michael Tanksley of Augusta, GA; eleven grandchildren, Reginald (Sakeissa) Robinson, Erica (Patrick) Benjamin, Alecia Burns, Lanita M. Bush, Dale Miller, Jordan R. Cubero, Gloria M. (Tyson) Simmons, Jalen D. Jones, Jasmine D. Jones, Everet Antonio Jones, and Devon Christopher Jones; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His race is finished, his engine now at rest, but his journey continues in the presence of the Lord.
