Robert Lewis Glaze

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Robert Lewis Glaze, a devoted servant of God and a cherished friend to many, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on August 27, 2026 at the age of 79. Known for his warmth, generous spirit, and witty sense of humor, Robert Lewis lived a life that beautifully reflected Christ’s love to everyone he met.

A man of profound faith and immense kindness, he leaves behind a rich legacy of love that touched countless lives in his family, church, and community. It was often said that he never met a stranger - leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Robert was born January 16, 1947, in Lincoln County, Georgia. He was the firstborn of Robert Lee and Christine Banks Glaze and the oldest of ten children. Robert attended West Side High School and graduated with the class of 1966. Afterwards, he attended Augusta Technical School and earned a degree in Machine Shop.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at an early age, joining Prices Grove Baptist Church of Lincolnton, Georgia, where he faithfully served as a deacon. He later united with New Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he continued his faithful service as a deacon, a member of the Leadership Team, and Sunday School teacher. He remained a dedicated member until his health began to decline.

Robert has always had a servant’s heart. He served in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1974. His passion for serving others continued when he became the first African American elected to the Lincolnton City Council. He faithfully served four terms, totaling 24 years. Following his retirement from city politics, he continued his public service as a Lincoln County Commissioner for four years.

Robert learned the value of hard work at a very early age. Throughout his career, he worked for Pet Milk Company, Gunter Well Drilling, Kimberly-Clark, Augusta Iron & Steel Works, and Pliant Corporation. He also faithfully served on the staff of Wright & Jones Funeral Home, where he helped comfort families during their times of bereavement. At one time, Robert and his brother, Willie Glaze, went into business together as co-owners of Glaze Amoco, a service station that once stood where Fast Times Convenience Store is located today.

In 1970, Robert married the love of his life, Charlie Mae Stokes Glaze. Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family. They are the proud parents of Kimberly Glaze Hunter (Roy C.), Pamela Glaze Norman, Kelcey Roberto Glaze (Kizzy), and Cassandra Kinlow Beard, all of Lincolnton, GA. He also leaves to cherish nine beloved grandchildren: Jasmine Searles Green (Jafabian), Chandler Hunter, Kendall Hunter, Justice Norman, Montrevious Glaze, Kelcey Glaze, Kennedy Glaze, Kelby Glaze, and Jessiah Zellars; and one precious great-granddaughter, who is expected to arrive in January 2027. Robert’s memory will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Christine Banks Glaze, and two brothers, Marvin Glaze and Dennis Glaze.

Those left to forever cherish his precious memories included four brothers: Willie Glaze (Shirley), Frank Glaze (Felishia), and Clinton Glaze (Mary Linda) all of Lincolnton, GA, and Charles Glaze (Kimberly) of Pineville, SC; three sisters, Elizabeth Glaze, Mary Glaze Calhoun, and Betty Glaze Rivera (Ralph) of Lincolnton, GA; one aunt, Margaree Banks Sims (Michael) of Martinez, GA; one uncle, Murray Banks (Eleanor) of Washington, GA; sisters-in-law, Eva Stokes Gresham, Minnie Stokes, Patricia Stokes, and Bessie Thomas (Miami, FL); his beloved NTBC church family, and a host of other devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
