Viola T. Lewis departed this life on May 23, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 26, 1941, in Lincolnton, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of Cleo Paschall and Lloyd Thomas. Viola's journey was defined by her unwavering commitment to family, faith, and service.

Over her remarkable career spanning more than 35 years, Viola served diligently in food services at the Columbia County Board of Education. With a warmth that radiated in every kitchen she tended, she fed not just bodies but souls, creating lasting memories over meals shared with countless children and staff.

Her proudest accomplishments were grounded in her deep spiritual roots. Viola joined Pleasant Grove CME Church at an early age and remained a devoted member throughout her life. Her faith was a guiding light, influencing all who knew her and inspiring her family to embrace the values of love, compassion, and community.

Viola’s passion extended far beyond her professional achievements. She loved cooking, a skill that brought her immense joy and allowed her to express her love for those around her. She cherished shopping outings, the excitement of going to gospel concerts, and the bliss of family reunion trips where laughter flowed like the sweet tea she often brewed for gatherings.

Viola leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to resonate within her family. She is survived by her beloved son, Alvin Dennis (Cassandra) Thomas, and her treasured daughters, Shirley (Arthur) Govan and Gladys Lewis. A caring sister to Minnie (John) Parks, Roger Ramsey both of Lincolnton, GA, Mary Thomas of Austell, GA, Mae Etta Thomas of Albany, GA, and Ruetta (Greg) Small of College Park, GA, , she also shared the joy of life with her dear grandchildren, Angel Sims, Lorenzo (Racine) McCladdie, Reggie (Tywrinthia) Crite, Rafael Andrews, Randall Andrews, and Amy Thomas. Her ten great-grandchildren brought her immense pride and happiness. She will be dearly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Ola Murray and Clara Avery, and brothers-in-law, Rev. Frank (Evangelist Lena) Lewis, Rev. Ray (Shelley) Lewis and Robert Holt, as well as her dear friends Jeannie Harris, Sarah Blackwell, and Doris Cullars; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many others whose lives she touched.

Viola has been reunited in spirit with her devoted husband, Robert Lewis, her son, Jackson Lewis, her grandson, Dontell Antwon Thomas, and her granddaughter, Shakitia Sims. She is also preceded in death by siblings Lillie Dell Davis, Clara Holt, Lizzie Bennett, Isiah Murray, Sr., George O. Tutt, Willie C. Elam, Nathan Thomas, and Lester Thomas. Each of these loved ones left an indelible mark on her heart and memory.
